A few days ago I had the pleasure of joining a few other yoga teachers on a conference call to discuss some of the reasons or reservations we had regarding our first teacher training. You will soon be able to listen to the call online at HealthYogaLife.com, but here are a few key points I forgot to mention, interview-style!
What were some of the best parts of the teacher training for you?
The Chakra meditation was fantastic (you’ll experience this after being in the training for a bit, so you’ll have practiced many types of meditation by then). I’ve never experienced anything even remotely like it. It was one of those things that, prior to the training, if someone told me about it I wouldn’t have believed a second of it. You’ll just have to try it to find out! I also really enjoyed having so many guest speakers – it’s good to learn about some of the yoga connections that exist in Boston and otherwise.
What was a big thing that shifted for you/you learned about yourself?
Life comes from you, not at you. It’s a crazy realization – no one can make me feel anything. I have control over how I experience life! Whaaaa?! No more victimizing myself. I’ve been working to stop making so many excuses, and have recently been able to overcome many life-long fears because of that (cue the sunfish). I’ve also been inspired to work on opening the energy centers inside of me, letting any tightening in my heart, release. It really does drain you, even physically, to store all of these repressed events and emotions inside you. I think I’m becoming better at recognizing when I am closing my heart off. OPEN UP! Oh, and by the way, you’ll also learn what energy centers are.
What would you say to someone who is considering doing the training?
I’d say DO IT, and do it yesterday! Stop waiting and making excuses – you can do it, and you will love it. It will change your life if you allow it. Don’t say “that’s for other types of people.” That’s just another way you’re closing yourself off from all life has to offer.
